7-seater taxi in Rio de Janeiro

There are not many 7-seater taxis in Rio de Janeiro. The majority of the vehicles carry the driver and 4 passengers. Taxi drivers rarely take more than what by law is allowed on a 5-seater taxi.

Although there aren’t many 7-seater minivan taxis in Rio de Janeiro (compared to the total of 33,000 taxis!), it is absolutely possible to book one. Here are the places where you can get a 7 seater taxi:

Galeao/Antonio Carlos Jobim Rio de Janeiro International Airport (GIG)
This is the place in Rio where there are lots of taxis that take the driver and 6 people. Taxis from airport-registered companies/coops such as Transcootur, Transcoopass, Coopatur, Coopertramo, and Cootramo as well as the cheaper (but equally good) Aerocoop and Aerotaxi all have bigger vehicles that carry 6 people without luggage.

Some of these companies even have 15-passenger vans, which are not expensive, but roomy enough for 6 plus plenty of luggage. However, most groups of 6 people (with luggage) take two taxis upon disembarking at the airport.

Santos Dumont Airport (SDU)
The same companies (or some of them) also operate at Santos Dumont Airport (SDU).

Cruise Ship Port
A couple of reliable taxi companies also operate at Pier Maua (the Rio de Janeiro Cruise Port).

5-star Hotel
Some taxi companies also operate at the entrance of major 5-star hotel such as Copacabana Palace, Marriott, Sofitel, Sheraton, and others.

If you need a 7-seater vehicle not only for the transportation airport to hotel, you can request an English speaking taxi driver upon disembarking at Rio de Janeiro. Then, you can arrange with that driver not only for getting you to your hotel, but also to tour you around in Rio de Janeiro (Christ the Redeemer/Corcovado, Sugar Loaf, etc), and take you back to the airport on your last day in the city.
