To buy tickets to Sugar Loaf in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, you can do it directly at the Sugar Loaf cable car ticket office on ground level, next to Praia Vermelha (Red Beach) in Urca Neighborhood.
Urca neighborhood is a few minutes by taxi from Copacabana. To give you an idea of the distance between Copacabana and Sugar Loaf, bear in mind that the farthest away point in Copacabana (Copacabana Fort) is 5.8 kilometers (3.6 miles) from Sugar Loaf.
It would take you 15-40 minutes (40 minutes if the traffic is horrendous — worst case scenario) to go from Copacabana Fort to Sugar Loaf by taxi. Taxi ride fare: approximately R$15-30; US$7-15; €6-13.
The Sugar Loaf cable car round-trip ticket (which includes admission/entrance fee to Urca Hill and to the overlooks on both hills) costs R$53;US$27; €24. It accepts Brazilian currency (R$) and major creditcards. You can NOT buy the tickets online on Sugar Loaf’s website.
On peak days, especially weekends in the summer months (December through February), is best to buy the cable cars’ tickets early (approximately 9 a.m.) in order to avoid the crowds that usually arrive by mid-morning on.
