Bad time to visit Sugar Loaf in Rio de Janeiro

When NOT to visit Sugar Loaf in Rio, Brazil?

Sugar Loaf enveloped by a cloud in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil

A visit to Sugar Loaf Mountain in Rio de Janeiro is rarely disappointing, but it may happen as there is a bad time to go. Disappointments can arise from the hassle associated with ticketing and the queue you may face when arriving after 9:00 a.m. on a peak or extreme peak day.

Other reasons for a disappointing trip leading to a bad time can be due to clouds that sometimes cover the top of Sugar Loaf. The visibility of Rio de Janeiro can be partial or none at any moment of any given summer, winter, spring, or autumn day. When it will happen and for how long is anybody’s guess.

There is always a away around a bad time. However, if you have a stop over of a few hours in Rio, then you are taking the risk of visiting Sugar Loaf Mountain with a cloud or a mist over, or during very busy visiting hours. Either one is disappointing and a waste of time and money.  The same concern is valid for visiting Christ the Redeemer statue atop Corcovado Mountain.

The bottom line is: try to book at least two full days in Rio de Janeiro, because a cloud over a landmark can ruin your visit (so can a very long line to buy the ticket to the gondolas that bring you up to the summit).

Where to check whether or not Sugar Loaf in Rio de Janeiro has a cloud cover?
