Cafés, Bars and Restaurants in Ipanema

Cafes, bars, and restaurants in Ipanema

There are several excellent cafés, bars, and restaurants in Ipanema. If you are a foodie, you will find several different cuisines, dishes, cocktails, deserts, premium beers, and good wine.

Day in day out you can try Brazilian as well as international culinary such as Japanese, Arabic, Italian, and others.

Bear in mind that Ipanema is not cheap though. Food and beverages overall prices (as well as hotel rates and entertainment admission tickets) match those of European and North-American cities.

Prepare your budget to enjoy Ipanema to the fullest seating at the best tables of the top cafés in the neighborhood.

These two are among the best eating/drinking places you can experience in Ipanema:

Astor — This restaurant/café is the only one left across Ipanema Beach; all the others are inland. One of the highlights is its partially open-air patio — good for people-watching. In addition, the food is great, the location is accessible, and the prices are reasonable for Ipanema standards.

Astor is one of the most popular after-beach restaurants on sunny weekends of the Ipanema summer.

Empório — This is the most traditional after-midnight bar in Ipanema.  Up to midnight you may have the impression that the bar will be rather empty all night long, but wait until 1 a.m. Apparently everyone arrives at the same time between midnight thirty and one in the morning.

Usually, a DJ plays a variety of rock styles inside the bar. But half of the clientèle prefers to socialize and flirt standing outside the bar. Cold Brazilian draft beer and Caipirinhas are the beverages most ordered.
