Can I cycle up to Christ statue on Corcovado Mountain?

The main reason not to cycle up to Christ the Redeemer statue on the summit of Corcovado Mountain is because a good section of the road along the forest up to the statue has no sidewalk, hard shoulder or bike path, so you have to monitor the car traffic all the time (unless you go around 6 a.m. and finish cycling by 8 a.m., as some locals who live in the vicinity of Corcovado do).

Nonetheless, the road to Christ statue is curvy, with several blind bends. As a tourist, you would need to take a taxi (with your bike in) up to the beginning of the road that leads to the statue. Bikes don’t fit in most taxis and taxi drivers are not equipped to carry a bike.

Bottom line, do you absolutely want to cycle in Rio? If you do, follow the cycling routes suggested in the chapter “Self-Guided Bike Tours” in ‘My Rio Travel Guide’ e-book (the chapter also lists recommended bike rental shops where you can rent a bicycle for an hour up to a week).
