You can drive yourself to Christ the Redeemer statue on Corcovado Mountain in Rio de Janeiro. However, a taxi ride to either the minibus shuttle stand or to the train station takes so little time that it doesn’t make sense to rent a car for that purpose alone.
Foreigners tend to shy away from driving in Rio due to the lack of street signs, the somewhat aggressive driving by the locals, the mountainous geography of Rio (that can be somewhat disorienting), and the beautiful scenery that is missed while driving oneself.
Instead of driving to Christ the Redeemer statue, just take a taxi to Corcovado Mountain, and then take the little train. Even if you rent a car to drive off Rio, you better visit the statue by taxi, instead of by car.
