In Rio de Janeiro, it is rather easy and fast to get from Corcovado Mountain to Sugar Loaf Hill on a budget.
From the Corcovado Train Station at Cosme Velho District, take bus # 584 (direction “Leblon”) at the station side and get off 15-20 minutes later on Praia de Botafogo, after Rua Marquês de Abrantes. Right there take bus # 107 (direction “Urca”) and get off approximately 8 minutes later on Avenida Pasteur. Alternatively, take a reasonably safe walk for about one hour all the way from the Corcovado Train Station to Sugar Loaf ticket office. (Although this the cheapest way, it is not the ideal one since some sections of the roads are a bit deserted).
How to get from Sugar Loaf to Corcovado Train Station on a budget?
You may need to visit Sugar Loaf first if the Christ statue is covered by cloud. To do it on budget, walk 10-15 minutes on Avenida Pasteur (after having visited Sugar Loaf) and turn left on Avenida Venceslau Brás. A few steps away, take bus # 583 (direction “Cosme Velho”), get off at the final stop and walk two minutes back.
Note that since bus rides are rather expensive (roughly US$ 1.50) and taxi fares are reasonable cheap, you are almost better off taking a cab, especially if you are a party of three or four. Taxi is almost a budget option in Rio de Janeiro when you are many sharing a short distance ride.
