How to visit Sugar Loaf and reach its summit on my ownIf your question is ‘How can I visit Sugar Loaf in Rio (Brazil) on my own?’ here is the DIY answer.

Getting to the summit of Sugar Loaf by yourself is very easy on a non-holiday weekday in low season. You can visit it by taking the following six steps:

Step 1) Take a taxi from your hotel to bondinho do Pão de Açúcar — the ticket office at Station 1 (at street level) at Urca neighborhood.

Step 2) At Station 1, buy a Sugar Loaf roundtrip ticket valid for one round trip on both cable cars for use only on the date of purchase. Do not discard the ticket, as it will be requested several times.

Step 3) With ticket in hand, take the first available cable car to Station 2 (Urca Hill).

Step 4) From Urca Hill, take the second cable car to Station 3 (Sugar Loaf).

Step 5) When you have seen and photographed the breathtaking views and wish to descend from the Sugar Loaf summit, take the same cable car back to Urca Hill, and from there to Station 1, where you began.

Step 6) After exiting from Station 1, take a taxi.
