Ipanema is one of the nicest neighborhoods in Rio de Janeiro to take a walking tour. The area is rather safe at day time, bustling with pedestrians, bicyclists, skateboarders, tall and tan and young and lovely girls from Ipanema as well as other local participants of the trendiest beach neighborhood in Brazil.
Ipanema is a rather short neighborhood (roughly 10 x 6 short blocks), easily covered in about one hour at a reasonable pace, or in about two hours in a more exploratory and comprehensive walking tour.
Ipanema has a quite new subway station (the first in the area; another one is under construction). That means that you can take the subway, for example in Copacabana, Botafogo, Flamengo, Gloria, Catete, Cinelandia, Carioca, or other station, and head to Ipanema on Rio’s clean and safe underground. Ipanema subway station (Gal. Osorio) is an excellent starting point to begin and to end your walking tour.
What route to cover? how long to walk? in what direction? Besides, on the Ipanema Map you can locate ATMs, restaurants and cafes, bars, nightclubs, exchange bureaus, recommended hotels, and the trendy beach spot.
