Rio de Janeiro Jesus Statue

The Rio de Janeiro Jesus Statue is the famous monument atop Corcovado Mountain. The statue of Jesus (officially called Christ the Redeemer Statue) was completed in 1931 to celebrate the centenary of independence of Brazil, which was a colony of Portugal for approximately three centuries.

Jesus Statue is located right in Rio de Janeiro, and can be seen from various spots in the city. In fact, the rooftop of many hotels in Rio offer a great view of Corcovado Mountain as well as of the Jesus Statue.

How long does it take to get to Jesus Statue

From your hotel in Copacabana/Ipanema/Leblon/Leme to Corcovado takes about 25 to 45 minutes depending on traffic. You can not go by car or taxi directly to the summit of Corcovado to get a close look at the statue. Half way up you need to take a minibus that drops you off a few steps away from the statue.

How much time can you stay atop Corcovado Mountain

Once you get to the top of Corcovado Mountain, you can stay enjoying the views of Rio de Janeiro as well as observing the Jesus Statue for as long as you want until closing time.
