Rio de Janeiro Travel Recommendations

Rio de Janeiro has 6.3 million inhabitants. Evidently, as a visitor, you will need several travel recommendations before landing in the most fantastic city in Brazil.

Your ideal source of information should be from an insider, and above all, up-to-date. Fortunately, you have come across the right person — I live in Rio de Janeiro, and have worked as a local tour guide since 2004. As a result, I have guided and advised literally thousands of travelers in Rio de Janeiro. You, too, can receive my recommendations right there where you are seating now.

I’ve condensed and packed the most reliable tips, itineraries, suggestions, and recommendations in My Rio Travel Guide, the guidebook I wrote and kept it as PDF only so I can regularly make the necessary updates. Here is the travel information you can find in it once you download it:

Safety — Rio de Janeiro is much safer than what it used to be. However, a few safety recommendations are still valid. You will understand the dos and don’ts in chapter one.

Transportation — Rio has 486 sq miles (roughly the same size of New York, and 12 times the size of Paris).  On a city of such a size you will definitely need transportation. But what is best for a tourist? taxi, buses, or subway? That’s what chapter 2 is all about — it covers what matters on how to get around in Rio de Janeiro.

Tours — The tourist attractions in Rio de Janeiro are  many: Christ the Redeemer statue atop Corcovado Mountain, Sugar Loaf Hill, Maracana Soccer Stadium, Colombo Cafe, Botanical Garden, Selaron Steps, Sambadrome, Copacabana and Ipanema Beaches, Santa Teresa Neighborhood, Lapa Arches, Chinese Overlook, Saint Sebastian Cathedral of Rio de Janeiro, and many other recommended sites. Chapter three presents how to visit these and others the right way — without standing in line to maximize your time in Rio de Janeiro.

My Rio Travel Guide still covers: walking tours, recommended restaurants and cafes, bike routes, accommodation, shopping, nightlife and music scene, and other recommendations.
