Is it safe to go to Sugar Loaf at night?

It is absolutely safe to go to Sugar Loaf Hill at night. By the way, Sugarloaf is Rio de Janeiro’s second most visited attraction (more than 1.400.000 visitors a year). Please note that Sugar Loaf Hill is not a mountain (some call it a mountain, but technically is a hill as it is not high enough to be called a mountain).

How safe is Urca neighborhood?

Sugar Loaf is located in Urca District, a few minutes on taxi from Copacabana or Leme Beaches, or from Botafogo or Flamengo. Urca is a very safe neighborhood, particularly in the area where the ticket office is located as well as where you board the cable car. The safest way to get to Urca is by taxi.

How safe is Urca Hill?

To get to Sugar Loaf you need to take two cable cars. The first one takes you to the first hill called Urca (yes, the same name of the neighborhood around it).  Urca Hill is 100% safe. The area is guarded and monitored by surveillance cameras — it is safe day and night.

How safe is Sugar Loaf?

From Urca Hill you take another cable car to your final destination — Sugar Loaf. The summit of SugarLoaf has less free space than the summit of Urca Hill. Regardless of the size of the surface, SugarLoaf is as safe as Urca Hill at any time — day or night — and for any traveler — families, group of friends, couples, women, or people visiting it alone.

You can stay at Sugar Loaf until 8:40 p.m. and until 9 p.m. at Urca Hill. There are usually taxi drivers waiting for the very last visitors to exit the site.
