The opening hours of Rio de Janeiro Sugar Loaf Mountain is not the same on New Year’s Eve. The ticket office opening hours are: every day 8 a.m. – 7:50 p.m. However, on New Year’s Eve (December 31) is open from 8 a.m. until 5:50 p.m. only; or at least these are the opening hours of the last years.
On New Year’s Day (January 1st) the Sugar Loaf cable car ticket office opens as usual. 8 a.m. – 7:50 p.m. Bear in mind that regardless of the day, you can always remain one hour after the cable car ticket office closes its door as the cable cars/gondolas continue to operate for 60 minutes. In other words, you can arrive at the ticket office 30 minutes before it closes, and still have roughly an hour and 30 minutes to visit it, take photos and enjoy the breath-taking views of Rio de Janeiro seen from Sugar Loaf and Urca Hill.
