Visiting Christ the Redeemer at night is an unforgettable and not-to-be-missed experience in Brazil
Depending on the month of the year you can visit Christ the Redeemer statue at night. The Rio de Janeiro winter months — June, July, August and September — are the best ones since it gets dark quite early (around 5:30 – 6:00 at night).
The opening hours of Christ the Redeemer is from 8 in the morning until 6:30 at night, so even after it gets dark you still have approximately 30 minutes on the Corcovado Summit, where the statue is located. By the way, it is totally safe to stay at Christ the Redeemer at night until closing time.
The worse time of the year to see Christ the Redeemer at night is during the Daylight Saving Time in Rio de Janeiro, which takes place every year from the 3rd Sunday of October until the 3rd Saturday of February. During those days, it gets dark around 7:30 p.m.
Fortunately, during the Daylight Saving Time the opening hours of Christ the Redeemer statue are also extended in one hour, which gives you a chance to see the statue and Rio de Janeiro at night as long as you stay until the very last minute until closing time.
The longest day of the year in Rio de Janeiro is December 20 or 21st, so the closer you are to that date, less darker will be at closing time at Christ statue. On the other hand, the shortest day of the year is June 21or 22st, the closer you are to that date more time you will have to appreciate Christ the Redeemer at night.
Note: Christ the Redeemer statue gets lit up every night.
