There are several ways to get to Christ the Redeemer statue from Ipanema in Rio de Janeiro. Your have basically three options, assuming that you want to get to Christ statue on Corcovado Mountain by yourself, and not on a private guided tour, or on a group shore excursion.
Bear in mind that first you have to get to the Corcovado Train Station in the Cosme Velho area, from where you can take the little nice train up to Christ the Redeemer at 710 meters (2,328 feet) above Ipanema Beach. How to get trom Ipanema to Christ the Redeemer by taxi
The easiest, safest and most convenient way to get to the statue by yourself departing from Ipanema District is by taxi. Taking a taxi can also be the quickest way as long as there is no traffic (for example, weekends, public holidays, and before 8 a.m. on weekdays takes approximately 20 minutes). The cost of a taxi ride from the heart of Ipanema to the Corcovado Train Station is roughly R$22; US$11; €8. The round-trip train ticket costs R$43 (approximately US$21.50; €18).
How to get from Ipanema to Christ statue by bus
The cheapest way to get from Ipanema to Christ the Redeemer statue is by taking the city bus # 583 (direction ‘Cosme Velho’), which is clean, modern, reliable and reasonably safe. The bus ride costs R$2.75; US$1.35; €1.15 and takes approximately one hour to the Corcovado Train Station. The last bus stop is just a few steps from the station. You buy the ticket on the bus, which can be taken at any BRS 2 bus stop along Visconde de Pirajá Street. You take the bus # 584 (see photo) to go back to Ipanema.
How to get from Ipanema to Christ the Redeemer statue by subway
Ipanema has one subway station (called General Osório), which is on the far side of the neighborhood, very close to Copacabana. From that station you can take the metro (R$3.1; US$1.5; €1.2) and get off at the 6th station later — Largo do Machado Station. To get from there to the Corcovado Train Station you need to 1) take a 5-minute taxi, 2) take a 15-minute bus, or 3) take a 30- to 40-minute walk. That’s the closest underground station to the Corcovado Train Station.
