GIG Airport

The main airport in Rio de Janeiro is GIG airport. It serves as an international as well as a domestic airport. Its official name is Galeao/Antonio Carlos Jobim.

GIG international airport has two terminals: terminal one and terminal two. Both are interconnected by a long indoor hallway. From either terminal you can easily take a taxi or a bus that can take you to your hotel.

Location and directions of GIG airport in Rio de Janeiro

The Galeao international airport is located in the north area of Rio, 24 kilometers (16 miles) from Copacabana Beach, where the vast majority of hotels are located. Since Ipanema, Leblon and Leme are districts adjacent to Copacabana, the distance between GIG airport and any of these neighborhoods are approximately the same.  GIG Rio Airport Address: Av. 20 de Janeiro, s/nº – Rio de Janeiro – RJ – Brazil

Infrastructure of Galeao airport

The GIG airport infrastructure is good enough. It has most of the basic facilities found in most international airports in major cities across the world such as: shops, restaurants, cafés, lockers, hotel (Luxor Hotel), car rental agencies, banks, post office, money exchange, airlines, parking lot, transfer and taxi companies, etc. (You find the location of the inexpensive taxis on a terminal map in My Rio Travel Guide).

The infrastructure might improve as the 2014 FIFA World Cup and the 2016 Olympic Games approach.
