The section between Sugar Loaf hill and Corcovado Train Station is not easily done by bike. The sidewalks at times are too narrow, uneven and crowded with people. Locals don’t bicycle on this section.
However, Rio de Janeiro has hundreds of kilometers (or miles) of bicycling path. While is not a good idea to bicycle from Sugar Loaf to Corcovado Train Station, it is a great one to bicycle in other parts of Rio such as along the famous beaches of Copacabana and Ipanema.
The most popular bicycle path is by far along Copacabana, Ipanema, Leme and Leblon beaches. The round-trip would take approximately 60 minutes and thousands of locals do it every day. All you need to do is to rent a bike from a shop in one of these neighborhoods and join the Cariocas (Rio’s natives) in their daily exercising activities.
Instead of cycling from Sugar Loaf to Corcovado Mountain, you will be better off taking a taxi, which ride will take approximately 15 to 20 minutes, and cost you roughly US$ 10-15. Save your energy to bicycle in the much nicer sceneries such as along Copacabana and Ipanema Beaches as well as Lagoa neighborhood.
