Visiting Corcovado can be very disappointing if Christ the Redeemer statue is covered by clouds, which in turn affects its visibility. When that happens (and it happens frequently), you may have partial visibility of the city or the statue, or worse, zero visibility of either one or both!
Visibility depends on density and the type of cloud present. If the wind blows strong and the cloud is light, it may clear up quickly. Otherwise, the statue can be covered for hours.
Clouds can cover Christ the Redeemer statue at any time of the day. One day may be clear only in the early morning to soon be covered for the rest of the day. Another day it can be covered in the morning until noon, then clear for a couple of hours, then is covered again for the rest of the afternoon. Other days clouds can cover the Christ statue the whole day, only for them finally to clear up at the very end of the afternoon.
Many times the statue is clear the whole day, day after day, for a week or so, and occasionally the statue is completely covered the whole day, two or three days in a row. Unfortunately, there is no specific time that has clear skies or ideal cloudless conditions, however, the tendency is that clouds dissipate at the warmest time of the day (around noon).
Beware that if you spare only one day to visit Rio, then there is a chance of not seeing the Christ the Redeemer statue even from the Corcovado summit.
Another cause of disappointment can be the long queues you may face when visiting the monument at the worse moment of the day.
